Office of Students with Disabilities

How can the Library assist?

We Can:

  • Locate items for you to check out, place holds and accept returns
  • Help you log on to a computer
  • Show you how to use the campus printers and money-loading machines.
  • Open KURZWEIL, JAWS, ZOOMTEXT, or FUSION programs on library computer.

We CANNOT:

  • Print items for free for anyone
  • Show patrons how to use KURZWEIL, JAWS, ZOOMTEXT AND FUSION. Please refer to the OSD office in the Student Services Building 1320 (1st floor)
  • Scan items for patrons.

The Alternative Media Production Center located in the OSD office in the Student Services Building 1320 (1st floor), produces media that allows students with disabilities to read their class curriculum in alternative ways. The center produces digital copies of books into formats students need so they can keep up with their academic reading. Formats include, but are not limited to Braille, Large-font print, Kurzweil, DOC, EPUB, PDF, etc. There are various software programs that students use such as JAWS, Fusion and Kurzweil.

Need Research-related Accommodations?

Students registered with OSD can request hour-long Navigate appointments with an SRC by contacting Anna Ramirez @ aramir133@calstatela.edu or 323-343-3983. Students must also self-disclose to the SRC that they are registered with OSD to extend their drop-in consultations beyond 30 minutes for a maximum of one hour.

SRCs can help students with basic research and citation questions. SRCs will help students brainstorm keywords, walk students through a search in library databases, and evaluate the sources they find. SRCs will provide examples of citations for different types of resources but will not correct students' citations/ reference page.

Students reporting course-related accessibility technology issues will be referred to their OSD counselor.
