Reading/Viewing |
E-books can be viewed/read online directly using a web browser on mobile devices. |
Downloading to Mobile Devices | To read offline on your mobile devices for the library’s ebook collection that uses Digital Rights Management (DRM), such EBSCO and Ebook Central ebooks, you need to set up your mobile device to download ebooks for offline reading. |
What You Need to Download? | Mobile Apps – You need a reading app for your device. You can find these apps in App Store.
Adobe ID – If you plan to read any downloaded ebooks on your device, you need a valid Adobe ID. At some point during your downloading process, you will be prompted to authorize your device with that Adobe login and password. You can create one then if you don’t have one. For more information about Adobe Digital Editions, visit Read eBooks from the University of Guelph Library Guide. |
Ebook Central | Some Ebook Central ebooks are provided by their publishers in a file format that allows the text to be resized in the online reader, so they are compatible with online reading on a small mobile device. Other Ebook Central titles are in a format that does not allow the text to be resized, and for those titles the online reader is not optimized for use on smaller screens such as a mobile phone. (For more details about supported devices, see Ebook Central: Supported Devices, Operating Systems (OS), and Browsers) |
Kindles & Kindle Fire |
Since Adobe Digital Editions is not supported on Kindles, you will not be able to download ebrary or EBSCO e-books to your device. For Kindle Fire, because it is an Android device, you can simply download the Bluefire app to your Kindle Fire. You will also need the Adobe Digital Editions ID. For more information, go to: |
