Search Open Access eBooks on OneSearch

There are approximately 160,000 open access ebooks available for access via OneSearch from the library web homepage. 

To find open access ebooks exclusively, follow the steps below:

1. Enter search terms/keywords in OneSearch box on the homepage

2. At the search result page, click Open Access under Available at Cal State LA on the left of the screen

3. Further click either Books or Book Chapters under Resource Type

4. The search result can be further narrowed down by subject, publication date, and language

You can find all of these features on the left panel of the search result page. 

 

 

 

Google Books

  • Google Books offers access to out-of-copyright e-book for full-text free access 

  • Google Books also offer previews of paid content, but in most cases, not all content in a book is available for free access

  • Google Books does not know what books CSULA or local libraries have, but it directs you to those libraries near you where a particular book is available

  • Barnes & Noble Free E-books
    Barnes and Noble offers free Nook e-books, including fiction and self published e-books.
  • Bartleby
    Freely available reference, literature, poetry, non-fiction, and the Harvard Classics. 
  • eBook-cafe.com

  • JSTOR offers a growing list of Open Access ebooks from respected presses, such as University of California Press and University of Michigan Press, at no cost to libraries or users.
  • National Academies Press
    Provides academic publications from National Academies Press free to read online or download. You can search or browse, and click the book title to see the read and downloading options.  For more information about downloading, go to FAQs.
  • Online Books Page
    A website provides links to freely available e-books online.  The website is managed by the University of Pennsylvania Libraries
  • Open Library
    Includes more than 1 million free e-books as well as in copyright e-books for borrowing.
  • Project Gutenberg 
    Include over 33,000 out of the copyrights free e-books for downloading.
