How to Access O'Reilly Online Learning eBooks

The O'Reilly Online Learning E-book platform is provided by O’Reilly for Higher Education.  The platform includes more than 35K book titles plus 30K+ hours of video, learning paths, case studies, interactive tutorials, audio books, and videos from O’Reilly’s global conferences and 250 of the world’s publishers.  These contents complement the classroom curriculum, prepares users for future careers, and encourages lifelong learning.

  • Mobile and multi-device technology allow users to access information on the mobile app—anywhere, anytime—online or offline.
  • The personalization for ease of use feature provides tailored content recommendations based on the material users like to read and watch. The personalization features include playlists for easy retrieval and content syncing across multiple devices, including notes, highlights, and bookmarks.

There are two ways to access: via One-Search and via O'Reilly Online Learning E-books on the Database A-Z list.  When you are on the One-Search result page, you will see an access point to the full-text:

Because of the personalized features with O'Reilly Online Learning E-books, individual accounts need to be established.  Below are the steps you should follow to set up your account:

Step 1 -- Select Your Institution

Select Institution

  • At the Welcome page as shown, click Select your institution pull-down menu
  • Select "Not Listed? Click here" option (the first option)

Step 2—Sign up for an account

  • You will see the following screen when you access Safari Books Online the first time
  • Enter your MyCalStateLA email address,  and once you click “Let’s Go” button, you should be logged into the platform.
  • In a few minutes, you should receive an activation email from O’Reilly, with the subject line “Your O'Reilly Access - Activation Required!
  • Follow the steps in the Activation email to activate your account

Step 3 – Login

  • Once you logged out your account, the next time you visit the platform you will be asked to login using your email address and the password you have setup
  • Instead of entering your email address to the box, you click the red-colored link “Already a user? Click here”
  • You will see the login screen, and you should login using your Cal State LA email address and your password. 
  • If you don’t remember your password, you can use the Forgot Password feature to reset your password.
