Affordable Learning Solutions & OER for Faculty @ Cal State LA

SCORE Departmental Collaboration Recognition Award

The AL$ team is launching a new Departmental Recognition Award. This new initiative will be an expansion of the SCORE program, where individual faculty members will be awarded $950 for converting multiple sections of a class to an OER class. Faculty members are required to work with other instructors teaching the same course to convert several sections of their courses into Open Educational Resources (OER) format. Preferences will be given to classes with the most sections and high enrollments. All SCORE participants will be recognized during a campus-wide event hosted by the University Library. Please note that faculty members can choose to participate in either the SCORE Departmental Award or the SCORE Faculty Stipend program, but not both simultaneously.

Departmental Recognition Award

Funding: This program is funded by CSU's Affordable Learning Solutions, the Cal State LA University Library, and the Associated Students, Inc. Submissions will be evaluated and approved taking into account the class enrollment size and number of sections transitioned into an OER format.

Timeline:

  • November 8 - Please complete the form by November 8 to express your interest in participating in the SCORE Departmental Recognition Award program.
  • December 16 - You will be notified of your approval (college/department) to participate in the S.C.O.R.E. program.
  • January 6 - January 16 - Workshop Completion & Open Education Resource Developments.
  • January 16 - The deadline to complete the three self-paced workshops and convert your course to an OER course by submitting the form.
  • January 17 - Spring Semester - Zero-Cost Course Materials Applied.

Requirements:

Please note that you can complete all the requirements once you get approval from your college/department. We will notify you once we receive your approval from your department.

To earn S.C.O.R.E. funding, all participants are required to complete the following steps:

1. Completion of the three self-paced S.C.O.R.E. workshops.

2. You are required to use only zero-cost course materials for your Spring 2025 class. Only courses converting to zero-cost or zero-cost courses taught for the first time in Spring 2025 are eligible. You can use an e-textbook or e-book, or other e-resources available from the University Library.

3. Each faculty member must submit their application separately.

4. You are required to convert and use OER materials for multiple sections of your class.

5. You are required to enable the Canvas Reading List in your Canvas Course page to provide seamless access to electronic course materials.

6. You are required to share the Open Educational Resources (OER) course materials to MERLOT.

Eligibility: All full-time tenured faculty, tenure-track,  full-time adjunct, and part-time adjunct faculty are eligible to apply and, upon approval and completion of requirements, can receive funds.

Faculty instructors are not eligible if the current workload is 125% or will exceed 125% with application to the scholarly communication and open resources eLearning (S.C.O.R.E.)
