How to set up a course reading list in Canvas.

Add items to your reading list

Now that you have created a reading list and added one or more sections, you are ready to begin adding resources to those sections.

Adding library resources

1. Click ADD ITEMS +. There are options for Library Search, Blank Form, Collection, or Upload a File.

2. Click Library Search.

  • You can refine your search by Research Type and Availability.
  • To add a resource to your reading list, drag it to the section you want it to appear in or click it, select a section, and click Add.

Adding non-library resources

1. Click ADD ITEMS+.

2. Click Blank Form or Upload a File.

For Upload a File, select the appropriate Copyright & Fair Use descriptor.

3. Complete the info:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Type
  • Source

4. If you want to add a public note, a due date, or any other details you can add that now or edit the item later.

5. When finished adding the pertinent information, click ADD.

6. A pop-up window will appear explaining that the library does not own this item. Select alternative resources and click CONFIRM.

7. The item should now be listed, and you can click ADD ITEMS+ to continue adding additional resources.

8. Don’t forget to PUBLISH your Reading List when you are finished adding your resources.
