EBSCO Linking and Log-in Issues

Temporary Workarounds

Use VPN

Setting up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) on your personal computer allows students, faculty, and staff to access library resources from off-campus.  To do so, download the VPN client first; once VPN is installed on your computer, you turn it on by clicking the Connect button.  For assistance regarding installing the VPN, please contact the Campus ITS Help Desk at 323-343-6170 or helpdesk@calstatela.edu.

Mac users, please note the following:

  • Some MacOS versions are not compatible with the current campus VPN version.   The current campus VPN (Global Protect) version is 5.16-16, which only supports MacOS version 10.11 and later.   If you have a MacOS earlier than version 10.11, you cannot download the current campus VPN.
  • There are know issues between MacOS and VPN. If you have MacOS High Sierra and Higher, or MacOS Big Sure, please follow the directions using the links below:

Delete Your Saved Passwords

Every time you log in to a new website or database, the web browser will automatically load a pop-up message asking whether you want to save your username and password.  If you have unintentionally clicked on Save, your password is saved on the browser.  This saved password will not automatically be updated when you change your password.  When you log in using your new password, it will lead to denied access.  To clear off these saved passwords, follow the steps for different browsers described in this Guide.

Access EBSCO Databases Directly
If the above two methods fail, and you still experience the log-in issue, you can use the EBSCO databases directly.   Follow this path to access EBSCO databases directly: Library homepage (library.calstatela.edu)àDatabasesàEBSCO Databases.  You can search all EBSCO databases together to find the article you need.  If you already know which specific EBSCO database you need to access, e.g., PsycInfo, you can follow the same path and select the database, e.g., PsycInfo,  from the Databases A-Z list.  Here are a few frequently used EBSCO databases:
