The association represents more than 450 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America and Spain

Excelencia in Education accelerates Latino student success in higher education by promoting Latino student achievement, conducting analysis to inform educational policies, and advancing institutional practices while collaborating with those committed and ready to meet the mission. Launched in 2004 in the nation’s capital, Excelencia is building a network of results-oriented educators and policymakers to address the U.S. economy’s need for a highly educated workforce and engaged civic leadership.

This Latina-led organization has steadily grown to become an authority in this field with a reputation as a national transformative leader and innovator in higher education by informing, organizing and compelling action.

The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics is now the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative (Initiative). The Initiative was originally established by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 to address the educational disparities faced by the Hispanic community.

On July 9, 2020, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order on the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative focused on promoting access to educational and economic opportunities for the Hispanic community. This commitment demonstrates the strong support for the critical role Hispanics play in the overall prosperity of the nation and highlights the federal government’s commitment to expanding educational and economic opportunities for the Hispanic community.
