The APA Style is based on the 6th edition of the American Psychological Association's Publication Manual, which started in the 1950's as a few pages of instructions for authors to submit their manuscripts for consideration of publication in APA journals. It is now in its sixth edition (2010) and is utilized in many other fields, such as nursing, business communications, technology, and education. A new resource is now available in the Library catalog, APA Style Guide to Electronic Resources. (You can access it by clicking on the title). With the multitude of examples this guide can assist in how to properly cite many types of electronic sources not covered in detail in the orignial manual.
Be sure to check out the Style Guidance tab where I have placed handout materials. I have also added the content PPT slides from our major APA workshops and sessions I have given to specific campus groups.
Good luck!
