Research Mentor

Finding a faculty or staff mentor who can guide you in the research and publishing process is a really valuable experience. The Council on Undergraduate Research has a guide on how to find a research mentor.

Here a few considerations when approaching a research or publication mentor:

  • Determine your research interests
  • Develop a list of topics you've found interesting from your courses or personal interests
  • Locate faculty or staff who share similar research interests, read through faculty profiles to identify their research projects
  • Send a clear and concise email to your identified potential mentor and include
    • A clear subject line
    • Your purpose for contacting them
    • How your research interests align
    • Your contact information
    • Attach your most recent CV
