Internship Opportunities

Library & Information Science students currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited graduate program may apply for an internship opportunity at California State University, Los Angeles. The University Library strives to provide user-centered library services and information access with the needed user instruction and support. We emphasize the development of information literacy, services, access, and meeting user needs of approximately 28,000 full and part-time students reflecting the ethnic diversity of the area.

Depending on the interest or expertise of the intern, there are special projects that the intern may take on in conjunction with the internship assignment. Projects may include:

  • Participating in the Library’s information literacy program by developing and assisting in presenting course-integrated and other information literacy classes
  • Staffing the main information desk answering directional, informational, and research-related questions
  • Assisting library users in selecting databases and developing search strategies
  • Providing digital reference services to users
  • Team-teaching course-integrated instruction sessions

The scholarly communication landscape is complex. Interns will learn how to identify reliable journals in a variety of subject areas, as well as how to find important journal information such as impact factor, acceptance rate, manuscript style, and review turnaround time.

Internships are one semester in length. Positions are unpaid, but the library pays for on-campus parking.
