What is a literature review?

The purpose of a literature review is to offer an overview of significant literature published on a topic and introduce your new ideas

  • Introduces your reader to the topic, important authors, and gives context about how ideas have changed over time
  • Not a summary, looks for relationships between sources to provide a broader overview, unique input, new perspective

Mapping Your Scholarly Conversation

Use this worksheet to map the major themes of the sources you have located in your annotated bibliography. Begin to think about how the researchers are in conversation with each other and how you can group them under certain categories.
