Citation styles

The most typical citation style used in the social sciences is APA. If this is the style your professor asks you to use, consult the resources below.

APA (American Psychological Association) style

  • The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition, published in July, 2009) is available at the Reference Desk under this call number: BF76.7 .P83 2010.  This is the authoritative guide for APA style.
  • For a "cheat sheet" to APA style, refer to the Library Quick Guide for APA style, available at the left in two formats, MS Word or PDF.
  • For additional online guides to APA style, refer to refer to links On the Web at the Library's guide to Style Manuals & Writing Guides.

Learn about other styles (MLA, Chicago, Turabian, etc.) at the Library's webpage on Style Manuals & Writing Guides.
