University Library Collections Budget

Most library subscriptions follow a fiscal year (July-June) or a calendar year (January-December) subscription period. However, because these subscriptions involve agreements between Cal State LA and vendors, the CSU Consortium, or the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium, negotiations and communications about renewal costs and terms must begin and be determined four to six months before the subscription end date and/or payment due date.

During this fiscal year, we received budget reduction information for the 2024-2025 academic year very late, after many negotiations were completed, renewals confirmed, and agreements signed. Typically, we carefully evaluate many factors when considering potential renewals or cancellations. However, due to the timing of the budget reduction and the fact that most fiscal year subscriptions had already been renewed, we needed to cancel some databases coming up for renewal during the second half of this fiscal year.

While it may be possible to resubscribe to certain resources in the future, this will depend on the circumstances at that time and the availability of library resource budget allocation. We will continue to communicate with campus faculty, staff, and students throughout this process, and we welcome your feedback.

The list includes the journal titles, the platforms that hosted the now-cancelled versions, and where the journal’s content or similar content can be accessed. It also includes links to the OneSearch records for each journal.  The CSU+ and library interlibrary loan (ILL) services are available to support access to resources not covered by alternative databases.
