Writing & Citing

This guide will help you cite sources for your papers and demonstrate tools to make this process easier.

Hanging Indent

A hanging indent is used to format the list of references at the end of an academic paper. If the reference is longer than one line, the first line aligns with the left margin, but the subsequent lines are indented a half inch. This video (2:17) explains how to automate hanging indents in Microsoft 365 Word and Google Docs.

Running Head

This video (4:31) demonstrates how to create a running head in Microsoft Word and Google Docs. APA 7 does not require a running header for student papers, however many instructors ask that students include them. Ask your instructor about their requirements for style guidelines.
