The University Library Community Room can be reserved by faculty and staff providing education-based events, workshops, and meetings that are open to the Cal State LA community and will be publicized on the University Library’s event calendar. The space features a PC-based workstation and two large screens ideal for presenting, as well as furniture that is easily adaptable to meet the needs of your event.
The Community Room measures 800 square feet. Adjacent to the room is a 1,725 square foot patio available for use during your event, but please note use of this space is permitted only during dry weather and does not increase the maximum capacity of the space. The maximum capacity in this room is 45 seated or 70 total. View the Community Room information page for photos and additional information.
Availability of the rooms is based on regular business hours for the building, and scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Events should end one hour prior to building closure, allowing time for clean-up (as appropriate). The minimum expected guest count for each space is 10 persons. Use of facilities must be consistent with all California State University regulations.
To maximize facility availability for the Cal State LA community, please email Kelsey Brown at least 24 hours in advance of your reservation to confirm or cancel your reservation. Reservations can also be cancelled through the same system used to create the request initially. Repeated failure to request cancellations or repeated no-shows to space reservations may impact ability to request library space in the future.
Upon arrival for a reserved space, sponsors must first check in at the main Library Service Desk located in Library North on the first floor. Library staff will escort you to the space and unlock the door. Upon conclusion of the event, sponsors must return to the main Library Service Desk to check out.
For a detailed list of furniture and technology in each room, please view the Community Room photos and the Innovation Hub photos. Both rooms are equipped for presentations and education-based interactive discussion. We encourage sponsors to involve their college ICT or other ITS support if high-level technology is desired or anticipated. Sponsors are responsible for providing their own technology and administrative/technical support, if needed.
Sponsors using the space must confirm food drop-off and pick-up times with campus catering to ensure that items are signed for, accurately delivered, and properly disposed of at the conclusion of the event. Please review the Cal State Los Angeles Food & Drink policy. Direct cleaning expenses may be billed to the patron at the discretion of the University Library if excessive cleaning is required. Please note food or drink is not permitted in the Innovation Hub except for water in resealable bottles.
For a detailed list of furniture, technology, and photos in each room, please view the Community Room information page and the Innovation Hub information page. Furniture in both the Community Room and Innovation Hub is designed to be adaptable to event needs. However, all furniture must be kept in the room and no other library furniture may be used to supplement the rooms. Please return furniture to its original state at the conclusion of the event. Sponsors are responsible for doing a walkthrough of the facility before their event, arranging the layout of the room if necessary, and contacting Facilities to arrange for delivery and pick-up of additional chairs and/or tables, if needed. Additional chairs and/or tables will only be permitted as long as room capacity is not exceeded. Misuse or defacement of furniture or facilities is forbidden and subject to event cancellation. Please report any furniture or space usability concerns the Library Service Desk located on the first floor of University Library North.
Each reservation automatically includes 30 minutes of setup and 30 minutes of teardown. If you need more time than this for setup, please adjust your reservation request accordingly. Room and all furniture must be returned to its original state at the close of event. Setup and teardown must occur during University Library operating hours.
Event "sponsors" are defined as faculty, administration, Cal State LA divisions, colleges, departments, or offices. Student groups are required to have a faculty or staff sponsor reserve the room and be present for the duration of the event. Sponsors are responsible for booking the space, as well as ensuring the space is returned to its proper state at the close of the event.
Both the Community Room and Innovation Hub have white boards on the wall suitable for group discussion. Markers and erasers can be checked out upon arrival from our Library Service Desk. The Microsoft Surface Hub also has a white board feature.
For questions or feedback about room use policies, please contact Kelsey Brown.
