Preserving LA’s Hidden Musical Histories

Kelsey Brown, MA

Communications Strategist & Event Coordinator, Cal State LA University Library

Kelsey’s parents were in a band growing up, and some of her earliest memories were of their rehearsals. She grew up around classic rock sounds, and was a talent buyer for weekly shows at Cal State Fullerton during undergrad.

Azalea Camacho, MLIS

Head of Special Collections & Archives, Cal State LA University Library

Azalea's fondest memories are of the LA club scenes she explored with her older brother, who introduced her to goth, new wave, rockabilly, and mod music. These experiences helped her develop her personal style, find a sense of belonging, and make lasting friendships as a regular on the dance floor.

Lettycia Terrones, MLIS

Ethnic Studies Librarian, Cal State LA University Library

Letty would borrow her brothers’ punk rock cassettes while walking to school in East LA and listened to disco music with her sister, a member of a local party crew, in the 1980s.
