Future Library Progress - LibGuides at Cal State LA

After fifty years of high-traffic daily use, the flooring in this area was cracked and discolored. It's now been all pulled up down to the concrete foundation and is ready for new, high-tech flooring that will be able to handle the thousands of footsteps of our patrons.

New Exhibit Space Coming Soon

Part of the University Library Master Plan is installing more areas for art and culture consumption in a comfortable lounge area. One such area will be this section of Library North 2nd Floor, where an exhibit area will be installed and these desktop computers moved to a more picturesque area of the floor, on the west side along the windows. The space planning group along with the exhibits committee walked through today and scoped out measurements and discussed possible setups. More to come soon! ...

Vinyl Signposts and Floor Directories Are Up!

The signage committee is excited to unveil all the vinyl signposts and floor directories up throughout all the floors of Library North and South! With all the thousands of square feet in the building, we know it can be challenging to find one's way around, so we hope this will be a good first step in making navigation easier. New Range Signs Make Searching Easier

Our signage committee has been hard at work partnering with our collection maintenance team working to update and upgrade our shelving signs. They haven't been updated in many years, and our new signs use bright, contrasting colors and easy-to-read fonts to make searching for items even easier for our patrons. Future signage updates include floor directories, directional banners on each floor, and decals labeling study rooms, event spaces, and offices. ...

A Year No One Could Predict...

It's been a year (almost a year and a half) that no one could have predicted. The COVID-19 pandemic hit us all out of the blue, and here at Cal State LA we were sent home in March 2020 with no clear knowledge of when we'd return to campus. While we're mostly all still working safer at home, we've opened up our doors this summer for limited hours for our students to have a sanctuary to study, learn, and thrive. The best part? Our Library North second floor area has been officially completed and opened! We're boasting xxx number of new seats, including solo pods and collaborative areas, as well as two new glass-walled study rooms. New flooring has been threaded with brand new electrical connections and power towers to plug in devices. Our favorite part is that with the shift, patrons will now be adjacent to the windows looking out over campus, bathed in natural light as they study. We're so excited to welcome you all back to campus at some point so you can experience the new study area. Stay safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. ...
